Huntsman to display PU technologies at Foam Expo

Stuttgart, Germany – Huntsman Corp. will be displaying new foam technologies at the Foam Expo Europe event to be held in Stuttgart next week.

For the mobility industry, Huntsman will offer a variety of bio-based foam technologies, compatible with existing foaming production installations.

The technologies and pre-polymers can help automotive manufacturers achieve a 9% level of bio-based content - according to ASTM-D6866-12, Huntsman announced in a statement 28 Aug.

On display will be Huntsman’s recently launched Acoustiflex S NBR polyurethane foam system - a lightweight absorber (LWA), semi-rigid foam, designed for acoustic applications in engine and trunk compartments.

The new formulation is thermoformable, with “superior” acoustics absorption and offering greater flexibility to meet design needs, Huntsman added.

In comfort applications, Huntsman will exhibit its Rubiflex Cocoon flexible foam system, used to make mattresses, pillows and cushion pads.

Optimising pressure distribution, the solution is claimed to maximise comfort by ensuring the body is evenly cradled.

With an open cell structure, the foam offers better breathability - transporting heat away from the body’s surface. The foam also dissipates moisture quickly and efficiently, reducing humidity build up. In addition, it is easy to roll, vacuum pack, store and transport.

Huntsman will also highlight its solutions for the construction industry, which include a new fire-rated PIR-based insulation foam product for the manufacture of composite panels.

Its DaltoPIR XHFR insulation system, the company said, combines thermal and “very good” fire & smoke properties, without compromising processing performance or durability.

The foam system enables more consistent processing, helping panel producers achieve better panel planarity and quicker line speeds.
