Marangoni prepares site for car tire production

Rovereto, Italy – Marangoni SpA is ‘reactivating’ its passenger car tire production plant in Rovereto as the company prepares to lease the unit to third-party manufacturers.

The plant has the capacity to produce up to 250,000 units per year, Marangoni spokesman Federico Sannicolò said in a written statement to ERJ.

“We have taken all the actions needed to reactivate new passenger car tires production: the automated plant is ready to be fully operational,” the company's PR & communication specialist added.

The idea behind the move is to offer a manufacturing base to tire makers, without them needing to make a hefty investment in a greenfield facility.

“With a very small investment 'we' can produce [tires] in the heart of Europe,” the Marangoni official added.

Amongst others, Marangoni is currently in talks with motorsport tires DMACK srl around a potential transfer of the UK company’s production to Rovereto.

Marangoni's PCR production was mainly based in its plant in Anagni, near Rome, which was closed down in 2013 as the company exited the passenger car tire segment.

"This automated line was always located in Rovereto but worked in synergy with the other plant," Sannicolò explained.

The production unit was set up between 2005 and 2007 and was was designed to "efficiently produce" special PCR tires such as ultra high performance and SUV tires in small batches.

The unit produced around 1 million tires until the shutdown in 2014.
