Conti rolls out hybrid tire advance

Hanover, Germany – Continental AG has introduced a tire for hybrid vehicles that features a 30-percent drop in rolling resistance compared to a standard tire. The development was highlighted in a 1 August company statement about some of its current ‘sustainability’ projects.
With this rubber fitted, hybrid models can reduce the distances covered with the help of their internal combustion engines and increase the stretches travelled in electric mode.
This, said Conti, has between achieved without compromising safety – as evidenced by the A ratings that the tire under the EU tire labelling scheme for both rolling resistance and braking distances in the wet.
Conti’s sustainability release also highlighted a process to enable rubber from end-of-life truck tires to be reused is retreading, and its work with the Fraunhofer Institute to commercialise dandelion rubber production.
