Slatina, Romania – Belgian logistics and industrial space group WDP has announced that it is building a 62,000 square-metre warehouse for Italian tire maker Pirelli in Slatina, west of Bucharest.
The project is part of Pirelli’s ongoing expansion at the facility and is estimated to cost €40 million, WDP announced 19 Feb.
Pirelli will be leasing the facility for a fixed term of 15 years from WDP, once construction work is completed in the third quarter of 2020.
“The… new-build warehouse will enable Pirelli to optimise its main production site and future-proof this facility,” said Jeroen Biermans, general manager of WDP in Romania.
To be constructed next to Pirelli’s facility, the “state-of-the-art” warehouse will be directly connected to the site.
The new building will house inbound and outbound logistics alongside space reserved for production activities.
Pirelli has previously described its production site in Slatina as its ‘most important’ facility.
In October 2016, Pirelli announced a €200-million expansion plan for the site to increase its production capacity 50% to 15 million units.
