Burghausen, Germany—Wacker Chemie AG has declared force majeure on its high consistency rubber (HCR) silicone product line after a severe technical breakdown of key equipment.
The event forced the shutdown of relevant production areas at the Burghausen facility, according to a letter Wacker sent 7 Jan to customers.
Based on a first evaluation, the shutdown will last for at least four weeks, the letter said.
The outage affects all Wacker HCR grades, which include: Elastosil HCR, Powersil HCR, Silmix HCR and Cenusil HCR.
Orders cannot be fulfilled at the requested time in the majority of cases because inventory levels are very low, Wacker said.
