Indian low-cost airline selects Michelin as tire supplier
Paris – Michelin and Indian low-cost airline IndiGo have agreed on a long-term supply of aircraft tires for IndiGo’s Airbus and ATR fleets, the French tire maker announced 20 Nov.
As part of the agreement, Michelin will supply the Indian airline with Michelin Air fuel efficient radial tires, which promise to provide an overall reduction in the operational costs.
The reduction of costs, according to Michelin, is achieved through increased number of landings, better fuel efficiency and “exceptional resistance to foreign object damage”.
The tires are also environment friendly, as they use fewer components and use less fuel.
Established in August 2006, IndiGo has a fleet of 189 aircraft, mostly consisting of Airbus A320 NEO family aircraft, for which Michelin is already an OE tire supplier.
