Aliapur stages ‘hack attack' on scrap tires
Lyon, France - French end-of-life tire management group Aliapur recently staged an innovative event to find new applications for waste materials.
The Openwaste initiative, held 24-26 Nov in Ivry-Paris, brought together 37 participants with one shared ambition – to “hack” waste.
Interdisciplinary teams, including makers, designers, engineers and creatives, were challenged to develop prototype products obtained from scrap tires and other recycled waste.
The prototypes were required to make use of a significant volume of material without generating any additional impact on the environment.
End products included a lamp manufactured solely from recycled materials, connected urban paving stones that produce energy and comfort kits for emergency housing.
Openwaste has responded perfectly to the objectives that we set, according to Hervé Domas, Aliapur’s director general.
The contest, he said, raised “the awareness of makers to the key issues linked to the recycling of waste in general, and tires in particular.
“It is now up to us to continue the adventure and accompany the Black Pillow team, the winners of this first edition, as best we can”.
