Sriperumbadur, India - JK Tyre & Industries Ltd is the second Indian tire-maker to have its production disrupted by heavy rains and flooding in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange on 4 Dec, the tire-maker said that operations at company’s plant located at Sriperumbadur, Tamil Nadu were disrupted for eight shifts.
“Total loss of production was of the order of about 700 tonnes,” according to the filing.
The production and dispatch, said the company, are getting “normalised” as of 4 Dec.
According to JK Tyre, there had been no damage to the plant and machinery, but partial damage has been caused to compound wall, internal roads and fencing.
The company added that the damages were adequately covered under its insurance policy.
The company’s plants located in other parts of the country are operating normally.
Apollo Tyres reported on 2 Dec that the floods disrupted operations at its Chennail plant for 3 shifts and caused production loss of nearly 450 tonnes.
Heavy rains and flooding have paralysed the state of Tamil Nadu since late November and at least 250 people are known to have died in floods.
