Sarawak to develop 20 000ha of new rubber plantations in 2013

Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia – 20,000 hectares of land in Sarawak will be opened up for rubber plantations during 2013, reports the Borneo Post.
The aim is to produce high-quality rubber for the Chinese market.
Sarawak’s rural development minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang is reported as saying that this was an addition to the existing 16 000 hectares of mature plantation and 8 250 hectares newly cultivated in 2012.
He added that the Sarawak government aims to open up 250 000 hectares of rubber plantation across the state by 2020.
