Aargau, Switzerland – Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. (SRI) is to establish a new production site to manufacture rubber parts for medical applications in Slovenia as part of its global expansion strategy.
The Japanese company announced 1 Aug that the €34-million investment will be made in central Slovenia and will be part of its recently-acquired pharmaceutical packaging business Lonstroff AG, which is based in Switzerland.
As part of the investment, a new company - Lonstroff Medical Elastomers d.o.o. – will be set up in Slovenia in August. The start of operation of the Slovenian subsidiary is planned in April of 2019.
The facility will be built on a site area of approximately 30,000 square metres and will employ 200 once operational.
Lonstroff AG produces and sells rubber parts for pharmaceutical primary packaging and rubber parts for medical applications to major pharmaceutical and medical companies. SRI bought the business in January of 2015.
According to SRI, the new plant will triple the company’s production capacity of primary packaging and rubber parts for medical applications in Europe.
