ContiTech expands elevator belts production in Germany

Hanover, Germany – ContiTech AG has expanded its production of elevator belts at its site in Dannenberg, Germany to meet growing demand.

With a €5 million investment, the company has added a new production hall at the site where its polyurethane belts for elevators will now be manufactured in a “three-stage extrusion process”.

In a 19 June statement ContiTech claimed that it is “the only company in the world that uses this method.”

The multi-stage extrusion process has been specially designed for ContiTech and enables a product with a complex structure to be manufactured in one production step.

The belts produced by this process replace conventional steel cables for elevators.

According to the German rubber and plastics engineering company the growth was a result of a “healthy order situation for heavy-duty timing belts and additional demand for the elevator industry.”

Additionally, over the next five years, ContiTech intends to continue expanding the elevator belt business.

“A new production hall in Dannenberg was essential for this. We are currently operating at the limits of our capacity,” explained Rolf Marwede, head of polyurethane belts in Dannenberg.

ContiTech said that it will also continue to carry out R&D on new materials and material combinations to develop new products.

The company employs 360 at the Dannenberg location, where it produces components including polyurethane timing belts, axle boots, shock absorber boots and seals for the automotive industry and technical systems and elevators.
