Solbiate, Italy – Rodolfo Comerio has unveiled the first of, what it says are, the world’s two biggest calenders at a special event held 1-2 Aug at its Solbiate site in northern Italy.
Both calenders are ‘F-shape’: one a five-roll model with a roll diameter of 870mm and roll-width of 5,000mm , the other a four-roll machine with 870mm-diameter rolls and roll-width of 5.000mm
The machines highlight Rodolfo’s leadership in the field of calendering plant for PVC film and rubber sheet, claimed a company press release.
The “extremely sophisticated” calenders are equipped with enormous rolls made of forged steel as well as advanced safety and control systems, according to Rodolfo.
Infrared video cameras control the incoming material flow to each bank, while an hydraulic, fast opening capability protects the rolls against any possible contact between them.
The rolls are fitted with special hot-ground bearings, which are said to ensure precise thickness of sheet.
Take-off and stretching rolls are independently motorised for more precise and accurate process control.
The machines are produced “exclusively using Italian materials and components,” added the company statement.
