Trelleborg adds silicones business to portfolio
Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg has continued its shopping spree with a recent agreement to buy US-based Speciality Silicone Fabricators Inc. (SSF), the Swedish rubber giant announced on 13 June.
Bought by Trelleborg’s sealing solutions business, the Tustin, California-based SSF manufactures precision silicone components for medical technology original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
“The acquired companyis a significant player in the important and high-growth US life sciences market, providing Trelleborg with a strong platform for future development,” the company added.
SSF has production facilities in Tustin and Paso Robles, California, as well as in Elk Rapids, Michigan.
The company’s sales in 2015 was amounted to approximately SEK330 million (€35.3 million).
The bolt-on acquisition, said Trelleborg, is part of its “strategy to strengthen its positions in attractive market segments”.
“SSF is a leading player in silicone products for the US market, with a strong reputation, track record and an attractive base of OEM customers,” said Claus Barsøe, president of the Trelleborg Sealing Solutions business area.
The transaction is expected to complete the second quarter of 2016. The cost of the acquisition has not been announced.
