Dear Reader
European Rubber Journal is preparing a feature on the role of control & automation technology in the global tire manufacturing industry.
This report will appear in the March/April 2015 issue of ERJ magazine.
For this, we would welcome your views on some or all of the following points:
a) From your knowledge of the sector, how would you describe the level of control & automation in the tire manufacturing industry today?
b) What factors are driving investment in advanced control & automation technologies in the tire-making industry?
c) What are the main barriers to the adoption of new control & automation systems and related instrumentation?
d) How well resourced are tire makers in terms of having the skills required for specifying, installing and maintaining these systems?
e) Which control & automation technologies are proving most effective in helping companies achieve their targets for safety efficiency and productivity?
f) Finally, how would you describe the position of the tire industry in terms of its adoption (or readiness to adopt) new manufacturing concepts such as the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0?
