Leverkusen, Germany – Momentive Performance Materials (MPM) has opened a new automotive glazing coating facility in Leverkusen, the company announced 10 June. The unit, it said, is a ‘first-of-kind’ and is will allow OEMs to carry out industrial-scale testing on silicone-based and other coating materials.
The facility will enable customers to coat production-sized automotive parts in realistic climatic conditions and support scale-up from test specimen-size to production-sized prototype testing, according to a Momentive press statement.
Features include a cleanroom environment, coupled with climate control units to simulate various application conditions year-round for thermal and UV-curing. This, said the company, will demonstrate effects from a range of environments, whether hot and humid or cold and damp.
“The opening of the new facility in Leverkusen provides customers with a state-of-the-art environment to achieve their production and technology goals,” said Sam Conzone, vice president, Coatings. “It also illustrates our growing commitment to the industry as we extend our capabilities and offerings.”
