Hot and greasy applications leave HIPEX cold
ERJ staff report (TP)
Waldkraiburg, Germany – The oil- and temperature-resistant thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) HIPEX from Kraiburg TPE has partnered with Veritas, the manufacturer of system solutions for the automotive market.
The TPE material will be used in combination with the substrate: polyamide to produce double clips for fastening brake lines – and the clips will be used as a standard component in engine compartments.
HIPEX – compared with other TPE – is permanently heat-resistant at temperatures up to 150°C. In addition, compounds from the HIPEX portfolio are resistant to oil and grease also at high temperatures. Compared with elastomers, TPE are generally easier to process, enabling their use with difficult geometries.
Kraiburg said: “The double clip for brake lines is manufactured by the injection moulding method. The thermoplastic processing method eliminates the time-consuming vulcanisation process, which reduces the cycle times for the component. Adhesion to the hard component polyamide is achieved by mechanical anchoring, which eliminates further assembly steps.”
Veritas was established in 1849 in Berlin and after several mergers in the late 19th century, the company has traded under the name Veritas Gummiwerke AG since 1929. It is “continental Europe’s oldest rubber processing enterprise”. The group headquarters in Gelnhausen has 2,000 employees and a total of 4,400 employees worldwide.
Kraiburg manufactures TPE based on HSBC (hydrogenated styrene block copolymers) and markets them all around the world. It has production sites in Germany, USA and Malaysia. Its sales organisation covers France, Italy, Poland, Spain, China, India, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Brazil and Mexico.
