Tasmanian revels in new DMACK tire
ERJ staff report (TP)
Tasmania, Australia – The Mitsubishi EVO 3 of Sam Kirkland and Matt Best debuted the DMACK DMT-RC tarmac tire at the recent Targa Wrest Point rally event in Tasmania, reported Rally Sport.
Kirkland, from Tasmania, was on his first ever tarmac outing – and the team were third in the Early Modern category of the event.
"I was really interested in trying this tire, the brand are becoming highly involved in the WRC [World Rally Championship]. They offered very good grip and gave you the confidence to really lean on the tire," Kirkland said.
The team is the first to use the DMACK tire in this event, and only one of a handful to use them in the current Australian Tarmac Rally Championship.
"We ran out of time to bed in the tires, so our grip wasn't quite as good on the first day. The second day is when the tires were working really well, and lasted the complete two day rally.
"These are a very affordable, high specification competition tire. I think it's only a matter of time before they will be on a lot more cars in this championship," Kirkland added.
DMACK is a British independent tire manufacturer based in Carlisle, Cumbria.
