Saudi imports $1.7bn used tires despite ban
ERJ staff report (TP)
Riyadh − Used tires worth SR6.4bn (€894.4m) were imported into Saudi Arabia in 2012 despite a ministerial decision banning import of such tires, reported Trade Arabia.
Such tires are used for small cars, trucks, buses, agro machinery and aircraft, an Arab News report quoting an Al-Eqtesadiah newspaper study said.
Meanwhile, Saudi new tire imports were worth only SR1.6bn (€311.1m) in the same year, according to the recent study.
Saudi Arabian Standard Organization (SASO) and the Ministry of Transport had also banned the use of such tires, the report said.
Japan, China and South Korea topped the countries from which the kingdom imported the used tires.
