Vietnam lures troubled rubber manufacturers
ERJ staff report (BC)
New Delhi – A delegation from the Vietnam Rubber Association (VRA) led by chairman Tran Ngoc Thuan visited India recently, reported G Sangeetha for Mydigitalfc.com, and held talks with leading members of All India Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA).
Vietnam consumes only 15 per cent of the more than 900 000 tonnes of natural rubber it produces annually, says the report. It is in the process of increasing its rubber production to 1.2 million tonnes, and plans a major fillip to its rubber manufacturing, increasing the domestic consumption to 40 per cent of the NR produced.
AIRIA president Niraj Thakkar said that Vietnam, having inadequate skilled manpower and lacking the latest technology, has asked to strengthen ties with the Indian rubber industry. Raw material availability is a major problem for the Indian non-tire rubber industry, is a big problem, leading to the shutdown of several small and medium manufacturing facilities in recent years. The country faces a deficit of natural rubber, and most imported rubber is consumed by the tire industry.
