Trelleborg concedes EU cartel judgement
ERJ staff report (BC)
Trelleborg, Sweden – The General Court of the European Union (GCEU) has affirmed the European Commission’s judgement and penalty for a marine hose cartel in which the Trelleborg Group was accused of involvement in 2007.
In January 2009, the European Commission (EC) imposed a penalty of €24.5m on Trelleborg.
Although Trelleborg accepted the judgement in matters of fact, it appealed the EC’s decision to the GCEU on the grounds that the decision was partially deemed to diverge from Union law applicable at that time regarding interpretation of the limitation period.
Peter Nilsson, president and CEO, said “We do not share [the GCEU]’s view of the legal position, but regardless of this fact, the judgement means that we can finally put an end to an issue that we have lived with for many years and we can now move forward.”
