Kolkata, India – Rama Prasad Goenka (popularly known as “RP”) died on 14 April at the age of 83, reports Mithun Dasgupta of the New Indian Express from an| Indo-Asian News Service (IAN) source.
Regarded as a "takeover king", Goenka established his RPG Enterprises in 1979 with four companies - Phillips Carbon Black, Asian Cables, Agarpara Jute and Murphy India - which he inherited when the family assets were divided.
As well as tires and carbon black, the tycoon had business interests spanning power generation, transmission and distribution, retail, entertainment, plantations and information technology. He acquired CEAT Tyres in 1981.
Goenka bought Dunlop’s Indian operation in 1984, jointly with Manohar Rajaram Chhabria, but eventually had to relinquish it to cut losses.
