ERJ staff report (BC)
Tokyo – The Yokohama Rubber Co. has established Yokohama Motorsports International Co. (YMI) as a wholly owned subsidiary.
Headed by Tetsuya Kuze (director and corporate officer of Yokohama Rubber) as president, the new company will be headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo and capitalised at 10 million yen (€83.6k). With approximately 20 employees, full operation is planned for July this year.
YMI will plan, develop, design and supply racing tires, assuming responsibility for negotiating and contracting with race organisers and teams.
In due course, the new company plans to expand by providing expertise and knowhow for the development of consumer tires based on racing tire technology.
In recent years, Yokohama has boosted its support and supply activities for racing and rallying in Europe, North America and Asia, including the Super GT series in Japan and the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).
