Every little helps with Michelin winter tires
ERJ staff report (BC)
Stoke-on-Trent – Switching to Michelin cold weather tires has significantly improved customer service and increased driver confidence over the past two years, according to UK online grocer Tesco.com.
The supermarket’s 3,200-strong fleet of light commercials carries out 500,000 deliveries each week, and was fitted with Michelin’s Agilis Alpin tires in Autumn 2011 following a number of harsh winters that hit the British Isles.
Having used the cold weather tires for two full winters, Tesco.com’s fleet and equipment manager Dino Papas says they have been invaluable in enhancing driver safety and ensuring customer deliveries arrive on time.
The supermarket’s home delivery vehicles operate seven days a week for up to 16 hours daily. Papas believes seasonal tires are more important now than ever, with trading hours lengthening and deliveries on more winter days including bank holidays, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
The Michelin Agilis Alpin tire, which is designed especially for vans and light commercials, uses a compound tailored to reducing braking distances and providing extra grip when temperatures fall to 7 degC or lower.
Tesco.com’s tires are fitted by ATS Euromaster, with Michelin Solutions carrying out regular fleet-wide inspections.
