Bridgestone goes large and narrow
ERJ staff report (BC)
Tokyo – Bridgestone Corporation has launched a "Large & Narrow” concept tire, rated for higher than normal inflation pressure.
The company claims reduced rolling resistance, leading to improved fuel efficiency and hence reduced CO2 emissions, along with substantially better wet grip.
Bridgestone cites the following technical advantages for the Large & Narrow concept:
• A more consistent contact patch shape
• A rolling resistance coefficient around 30% lower than that of conventionally sized tires (175/65R15)
• Reduced air resistance from narrower profile
• Wet grip performance approximately 8% better than that of conventional tires
The Large & Narrow tire is displayed on Bridgestone's stand at the Geneva Motor Show, starting today (5 March).
