ERJ staff report (BC)
Midland, Michigan - Dow Corning used a Valentine's Day confectionery hook to promote its silicone antifoaming agents for food and beverage production.
Dow cites research projecting the global market for confectionery as reaching US $208.5 billion by 2017, up from $141 billion in 2007.
“Foaming issues in food and beverage processing applications can create spillovers that negatively impact efficiency, productivity and cost,†said Don Buchalski, global marketing manager for Dow Corning's Xiameter brand, which offers standard silicone materials online. “Silicone antifoams destabilise and collapse bubbles, allowing confectioners to avoid having to stop production to clean up spills,†he continued.
Xiameter agents may be used as pure liquids, powders or in compounds or emulsions. They are claimed to be more effective than organic antifoaming agents.
