ERJ staff report (BC)
Mumbai - The main runway at Mumbai International Airport (MIA) was closed for three hours on 4 January after a Russian Antonov An-74 charter cargo plane suffered a tire bust, reports the Times of India.
An MIA spokesman said that about 12.43 pm, the airport airside team detected a fire on the plane as smoke and flame were emanating from its undercarriage. Both starboard tires had burst.
Flight operations were unaffected, as air traffic control activated the secondary runway for all incoming and outgoing flights.
The fire was brought under control after the pilot switched off the engines, emergency systems were activated, and fire service personnel attended.
