China claims leadership In global rubber industry
ERJ staff report (DS)
Beijing - A long report on the CRIA website tracks the progress of the rubber and tyre industry in China over the last 10 years. The report says China became the largest global consumer of rubber in 2002 and has remained at the top since then. In the same period radial tyre production moved to 84 percent of total tyre production from 50 percent.
In terms of tyre manufacture, China's output (numerically) exceeded the US in 2006 to take top slot, and production has continued to outstrip all other countries. China now makes around 25 percent of all tyres made in the world.
Other key statistics show that manufacture of synthetic rubber grew from just 10 kt in 2000 to 282 kt in 2010. This year eight large synthetic rubber factris came on stream and the country now has capacity for 3.39 million tonnes/year, which is claimed to be more than the US, making China the world's largest producer of synthetic rubber.
In conveyor belts the country claims capacity for more than 350 million m2 annually
The report carries a wealth of detail on the rubber industry of China.
