Delticom offers alternative to EU tyre label
ERJ staff report (DS)
Hanover, Germany -- Delticom AG has carried out a survey of European consumers into their understanding of the forthcoming EU tyre label. It has developed an alternative which it says makes the information easier to understand.
The results have been used to inform a specific information programme operated by Delticom online stores which aims to inform consumers with a single graphic designed to help consumers with the buying decision.
Delticom uses the term DEX (Delticom Efficiency Class Index) to describe the new integrated index.
Consumers were asked to rank by importance the aspects of the tyre label in relation to summer and all-season tyres. Winter tyres were not included in the study. Consumers said safety is more important than the possibility of improving fuel economy. Over half of the 40,000 respondents said wet grip is more important than fuel economy. Just a quarter said fuel economy was important with even fewer suggesting that rolling noise is important to their buying decisions.
As a result, the DEX index offers just a star rating system, based on a one- to five-star evaluation.
“Our aim is to achieve a clear and sustainable expansion of the expertise we are able to offer customers in our capacity as Europe's number one Internet tyre retailerâ€, explains Delticom's CEO Rainer Binder. “The DEX will be exclusively available in our European online shops, in France at 123pneus.fr, with immediate effect and provides additional, convenient and time-saving tyre purchasing guidance. It offers customers an immediate opportunity to compare just about any type of tyre in accordance both with the DEX and individual label criteria.â€
