Sumitomo breaks ground on Thai agri tyre plant

Rayong Province, Thailand -- On August 2nd, Sumitomo Rubber (Thailand), a 100% subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. in Kobe, Japan, held a groundbreaking ceremony at the future site of its newest factory, which is currently under construction in Amata City Industrial Estate in Rayong Province, Thailand. This factory will be Sumitomo Rubber Group's first overseas factory to produce tyres for use in agricultural equipment.
The company is investing aroun yen 10,000 million (euro 101 million) in the plant. It is due on stream in May 2014 and will have capacity for 50,000 tyres (800 tonnes) per month by the end of 2017.
