ERJ staff report (DS)
Chalfont, Pennsylvania - A US-based online tyre retailer has withdrawn advice to motorcyclists that they might consider using car tyres on the rear of their bikes. The company now says, “Using an automotive tyre on a motorcycle is not recommended.â€
Anyone who has ridden a bike - especially round corners - will know that the square shoulder on a car tyre is entirely unsuited to the way a bike behaves. Where bike tyres are designed with a crowned area which often features increased area and grip away from the centreline of the tyre; a car tyre fitted on the offers less area and less grip, making it highly unsafe to use on the rear of a bike.
