Greenville, South Carolina - Michelin North America Inc. has started shipping its Defender passenger tyre, the replacement for the firm's HydroEdge and Harmony tyre lines, in sizes ranging from175/70R13 to 225/55R18, covering 93 percent of the targeted vehicle market.
The Defender features a 90,000-mile warranty, increased safety and improved fuel efficiency and is backed by the Michelin Promise Plan, a tyre service package that offers a free 30-day satisfaction guarantee, three-year flat tyre changing assistance and additional mileage warranties on the purchase of passenger and light-truck tyres.
Michelin unveiled the Defender in Januaryto replace its HydroEdge and Harmony lines and cut the number of SKUs dealers need to cover the market segment.
The Defender's treadwear warranty-90,000 miles on T- and H-rated versions and 80,000 miles on V-rated tyres-addresses the current trend of vehicle owners' keeping their cars longer than in the past, according to the Greenville-based tyre maker.
Michelin is building the Defender in its six North American car tyre plants. Michelin said the Defender is price positioned on par with its HydroEdge and Harmony predecessors, providing “significant value†in a tyre Michelin North America Chairman and President Pete Selleck called the “best standard passenger car tyre†Michelin has ever built.
