Labour dispute escalates at Standard Profil
ERJ staff report (DS)
Duzce, Turkey - Automotive profile maker Standard Profil Otomotiv San. ve Tic. A.S. is locked in a labour dispute with members of Turkish union, Petrol-Is. At a meeting on 2 April, the union announced its intention to demonstrate and take further action over allegations of management intransigence.
The company employs over 2000, and following a vote, the union gained sufficient support from the workers to establish collective bargaining with management. However, the management does not recognise the union and has rejected the union's approaches for collective bargaining and is appealing a decision by Turkey's labour ministry to rubber-stamp union representation.
The union and its global trade union partner, the ICEM, is alerting auto-making customers of Standard Profil's negligent social conduct in Turkey.
In a statement, the union said, “We will share all the developments concerning the violations at the workplace via media and use all kinds of legitimate tools and mechanisms to defend the rights of Standard Profil workers.â€
