ERJ staff report (R&PN)
Denver, Colorado - Gates Corp. said it plans to close its hose manufacturing plant in Charleston, Mo., “in response to the continued challenging economic climate and ongoing pressures to remain competitive,†according to a company statement.
The factory employs about 125 and makes hydraulic hoses for use in tractors and airplanes. “This is a very difficult decision for any company to make, especially because of the impact on our work force,†said Scott Day, Gates vice president of manufacturing.
Gates did not give a timetable on when the facility will shut down.
