ERJ staff report (DS)
Tennessee - A dirt-bike riding family from Tennessee has developed a tool called the Knobbly Knife, which can dress the knobbles on dirt bike tyres and claims the tool can extend the life of tyres by a factor of three.
The tool is similar to a hand tread cutter, in which a sharp. A tool steel blade is heated to around 500F (260C) and used to cut the rubber into shape.
Inventor Mark Evans said on his website, “Through much trial and error, my partner and I, have come up with a tool that keeps my knobbies sharp and keeps me from changing tyres as much. I can now sharpen my tyres in less than 10 minutes. I have one buddy that sharpened his tyres and he said his old tyre sharpened with KnobbyKnife was better than a new tyre bought from a store.â€
