Michelin says tyre sales grew in October

Paris - Michelin said sales of original equipment passenger car and light truck tyres increased in Europe (+2.5 percent) and North America (+11.2 percent) in October, but fell in by 5.6 percent in Brazil compared to October 2010. In the replacement market, sales grew in Europe (+3.8 percent) and Brazil (+13.4%) but fell by 3.5 percent in North America.
In the heavy truck business, original equipment sales grew in all three areas. The greatest growth was in North America (+63.8 percent), followed by Brazil (+10 percent) and Europe (+9.8 percent). Sales fell in the replacement market, with the greatest drop reported in Brazil (-8.1 percent), followed by North America (-7.4 percent) and Europe (-6.8 percent).
For the year to date, original equipment passenger car and light truck tyre sales were up in Europe (+7.6 percent, North America (+6.8 percent) and Brazil (+4.9 percent) compared to the same period in 2010. In the replacement market, sales grew in both Europe (+7.9 percent) and Brazil (+5.1 percent) but fell slightly in North America (-0.6 percent).
In the heavy truck segment, there was growth in all markets. In Europe, original equipment sales were up 43 percent and replacement sales by 8.8 percent. In North America, OE sales were up 59.7 percent and replacement sales were up 8 percent. And In Brazil, OE sales were up 19.5 percent and replacement sales were up 7.5 percent compared to the same period in 2010.
