Nizhnekamskneftekhim receives visit from Tartarstan's president
ERJ staff report (DS)
Nizhnekamsk, Tartarstan -- On 7 November, 2011 R. Minnikhanov, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, visited OAO Nizhnekamskneftekhim as part of his working trip to Nizhnekamsk municipal region.
He visited the halobutyl rubber plant where the third rubber finishing line was commissioned on August 25 this year. Nizhnekamskneftekhim is the third largest halobutyl producer in the world after ExxonMobil Chemical and Lanxess AG, and the first and the only one in Russia. Nizhnekamskneftekhim said about 93 percent of halobutyl rubber is exported to companies including Michelin, Pirelli, Goodyear, Bridgestone, Continental.
Halobutyl rubber is used almost exclusively in the inner-liners of tyres. It is made by adding a halogen group to regular butyl rubber. This halogenation process makes the butyl rubber compatible wit the SBR and BR used in the carcass material. Both butyl and halobutyl have excellent gas retention characteristics, making the materials ideal for use in retaining air within inflated pneumatic tyres.
