Double victory for Yokohama at Japanese design awards
ERJ staff report (LMH)
Tokyo -- Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd's new eco tyre concept BluEarth and its new studless tyre for trucks and buses, the ZEN 903ZW, each received the Good Design Award 2011.
The award was presented to Yokohama on 3 Oct as part of a programme to recognise excellent design work from countries in Japan and further afield.
BluEarth is Yokohama Rubber's concept for eco tyres with good environmental performance combined with the universal design of "being environmentally, human and socially friendly," the Japanese company said in a 24 Oct announcement.
The tyres are designed to achieve high levels of fuel efficiency and safety, and to reduce tyre maintenance, Yokahama said.
The ZEN 903ZW was developed to embody three themes of environmental performance that Yokahama said was common to all tyres in the ZEN series. These are the promotion of recycling via retreading through improved casings; long life through improved wear resistance; fuel efficiency through reduced rolling resistance.
The award recognises this development attitude, Yokahama said, as well as product performance contributing to realizing the "3 R's" - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle - essential to achieving a sustainable society.
