Kumho bows out as F3 Euro Series race tyre supplier
ERJ staff report (TB)
Frankfurt, Germany -- The Formula 3 Euro Series is negotiating a new race tyre supply contract for next year and beyond after agreeing with Kumho Tire Co. Inc. to end their nine-year association.
Kumho has been the exclusive supplier since 2003 of the series, which runs 10 to 12 races annually at tracks throughout Europe, often in support of the DTM German Touring Car Championship.
Formula 3 cars are single-seat, open-wheel racers powered by production-based four-cylinder 2-liter engines.
“With Kumho, the F3 Euro Series loses an always-loyal partner,†said Walter Mertes, managing director of the racing series, who called the split “amicable.â€
Mertes said negotiations with a new tyre supplier are close to completion.
The F3 Euro Series also will debut a new chassis next year, the Dallara F312, in line with revised regulations for the Formula 3 series.
