Further decline in US vehicle miles driven

Washington DC -- The US Department of Transportation has released data showing that US drivers are reducing how much they drive. The number of miles driven has not increased since 2007.
Travel on all roads and streets changed by -1.9 percent
(-5.0 billion vehicle miles) for May 2011 as
compared with May 2010. Travel for the month is
estimated to be 254.0 billion vehicle miles.
Cumulative Travel for 2011 changed by -1.0 percent
(-11.7 billion vehicle miles). The Cumulative
estimate for the year is 1,193.6 billion vehicle miles
of travel.
