New condom includes erectogenic compound
ERJ staff report (DS)
Guildford, Surrey -- A small start-up company based in Surrey Technology Centre has developed a condom which includes a pharmacological dose of an erectogenic compound in the teat. The effect is to help men maintain a firmer erection during intercourse whilst wearing a condom.
The company, Futura Medical, has licenced the concept to the parent of SSL, which sells condoms under the Durex brand name.
Discussions with EU regulatory authorities have confirmed that the product will be classified within the EU as a Class III medical device with an ancillary medicinal substance. This classification will allow the product to be sold throughout Europe in the same way as conventional condoms.
