Gevo plans isobutanol startup by Q1 2012

Luverne, Minnesota -- Gevo expects to start production of isobutanol at Luverne, Minnesota in the first quarter of 2012. The butanol production is expected to be used as a feedstock for the production of isobutene which can be used to make butyl rubber, among other things. Lanxess has a close relationship with Gevo.
Gevo said it has succesfully made isobutanol at a pilot facility, and expects to use the same yeast-based technology at a plant in Luverne Minnesota in early 2012. Capacity will be around 18 million (US) gallons per year. The company has stated a target of 350 million gallons/year by 2015.
