Firestone to spend $20 million on roofing plant
ERJ staff report (R&PN)
Prescott, Arkansas -- Firestone Building Products Co. will spend $20 million on an expansion of its Prescott single-ply rubber roofing plant, the company disclosed in a event to mark the expansion.
The firm in January announced it would consolidate its two EPDM rubber membrane facilities, in Prescott and Kingstree, South Carolina. On March 28 it celebrated the expansion with local and state leaders at the opening of the Firestone Science Center at the Prescott Elementary School. Firestone donated $100,000 for the center, which is aimed at educating elementary school students in biology, physics, chemistry and other areas of scientific research.
The company previously disclosed it is adding 100 jobs to the Prescott site, which already employs 418. The Kingstree plant is being closed, with a loss of 190 jobs.
