Yokohama wins environmental award for cashew nut development

Tokyo - The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. Said it has received the "Mortimer T. Harvey Award 2010" from the Cardolite Corporation (USA), a leading company in cashew nutshell liquid products.
Yokohama Rubber received the award for a technology that makes use of cashew nutshell products. A liquid extracted from the shells of cashew nuts can be used as raw materials in the bead filler rubber compound.
The resulting rubber compound iis easy to process and once cured is highly elastic, which leads to better driving stability. The technology was patented in 1991 in Japan and in 1993 in the United States.
