Avon Motorcycles mark 100 years
ERJ staff report (DS)
Melksham, UK -- US-owned Avon Tyres will be celebrating 100 years of manufacturing motorcycle tyres in the course of 2011. Avon Tyres said it is the only producer of road-going motorbike tyres in the UK.
The history of the Avon company dates back to 1885, when the company converted a former cloth factory in Melksham, Wiltshire, into a rubber goods manufacturing plant. From the beginning of the 20th century the company diversified into a number of specialised rubber goods and from 1911 they developed their first motorcycle tyre.
2011 marks their 100 years of participation in the motorcycling world and Avon Tyres has a series of forthcoming events coming up in order to celebrate the past centenary and their involvement in the world of motorcycling.
