Mississippi tyre fraud trial set for Sept
ERJ staff report (TB)
Oxford, Mississippi -- A tyre distributor, accused of 70 accounts of fraud against a tyre dealer customer, has had his federal trial set for 26 Sept, by the US District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi.
Sanjeet Singh “Sonny†Veen, a Rockville, Maryland-based tyre distributor is accused of charging his customer for goods that were never dispatched.
According to the indictment issued last Oct, Mr. Veen and his company, Orteck Global Supply & Distribution Co., billed Dunlap & Kyle Co. Inc. for more than $7 million (Euro 5 million) in tyre shipments that were never sent.
Between Mar 2009 and Feb 2010, Mr. Veen allegedly accepted money from Dunlap & Kyle and its affiliated companies, blaming shipments that never arrived on the mistakes of foreign manufacturers.
The case will be heard in Oxford before Senior Judge Glen Davidson of the US District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi. Mr. Veen remains free on $1 million bond.
Dunlap & Kyle operates 13 wholesale centers and 52 retail stores under the Gateway Tire name.
