Pirelli reports tyre markets still growing

Milan, italy -- Pirelli has updated its website with new tyre market data for th emonth of August. The data matches that published a few days ago by Michelin, but differs in significant ways.
In truck tyres, European OE sales were up by 99 percent over the same month in 2009, and up by 41 percent in the year to date. Replacement sales in Europe are up by 24 percent in the year to date and by 20 percent year on year.
NAFTA truck tyre sales also grew strongly, with OE sales in the frst eight months ahead by 33 percent, and up by 51 percent in August alone. Replacement truck sales were ahead by 19 percent in the year to date and by 20percent in the month of August.
In South America, truck tyre sales are still growing stronly, with OE sales in the year to date up by 61 percent and in August up by 54 percent. Replacement sales are ahead by 23 percent in the year to date matched by 24 percent growth in August alone.
Asian sales data is not yet complete, but available data shows OE sales of truck tyres in China are up by 65 percent in the first eight months, and by 12 percent in August alone. Japanese data shows replacement truck tyre sales up by 16 percent in the year to date matched by 15 percent rowth in August alone.
On the car and consumer side, Europe saw confinued growth, albeit at a lower level. OE sales were up by 18 percent in the year so far, and by just 1 percent in the month of August. Michelin reported OE sales down by 10 percent in the same month. On the replacement side, sales were up by 7 percent in August and 9 percent in the year to date.
Sales in the NAFTA region saw grwoth, with OE sales up by 35 percent in Auguat and 63 percent in the year to date. replacement tyre sales were up by 3 percent in the month and 5 percent in the year to date.
In the Mercosur region OE car tyre sales were ahead by 14 percent in August and by 16 percent in the first eight months. Replacement sales were 11 percent ahead in August and 18 prercent in the year to date.
Asian data is not complete, but available data shows Chinese OE car tyres sales up by 12 percent in August and 37 percent in the year to date. Japanese replacement car tyre sales were 9 percent ahead in the eight months and 7 percent ahead in August alone.
