ERJ staff report (TB)
Yuanlin, Taiwan -- Cheng Shin Rubber/Maxxis International has picked a site in a Chongqing, China, industrial park as the site for its newest tyre plant, a $300 million project that should be producing radial car tyres by mid-2011.
The new plant, located in Chongqing Municipal Yan Jia Industrial Park, will be capable of producing 30,000 tyres daily at full capacity. The project should take two to two-and-a-half years to complete and provide 2,500 jobs, the company said.
The plant will be Maxxis' fifth in China and eighth overall. It will operate as Cheng Shin Tire & Rubber (Chong Qing) Co. Ltd.
Maxxis is considered the world's 10th largest tyre maker with 2009 sales of $2.72 billion.
