Bridgestone also reports recovery in Q1

Tokyo -- Bridgestone Corp. has reported much stronger sales in the three months to 31 March 2010. Net consolidated sales jumped to yen 659 billion (euro 5606 million), compared with yen 568 billion a year ago. The company returned to profit, recording operating income of yen 36 billion in comparison with a loss of yen 12.3 billion a year ago.
In the tyre segment the company reported an operating profit of yen 33 100 million on sales of yen 547.4 billion. Diversified Products reported operating profits of yen 2900 million on sales of yen 114 billion.
Bridgestone said, "unit sales of tyres increased considerably over the same period last year due to recovery in demand."
