Kraiburg TPE compounds used in solar charger

Waldkraiburg, Germany -- Kraiburg TPE, a manufacturer of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), is providing some of its compounds for a “flexible solar charging unit” manufactured by Finnish company Suntrica, a 24 Feb company statement said.

The “SolarBadge” is designed to provide a flexible power supply to outdoor sport enthusiasts and can supply solar energy to charge a cell phone, MP3 player or digital camera, Kraiburg said.

According to Kraiburg, a “pliant” connection was needed between the TPE and the plastic surface of the SolarBridge to protect the heart of the solar charger from any excessive physical loads. The project team overcame this problem by developing a new formula within Kraiburg's Thermolast K product group, permitting adhesive bonding.

The pliant connection, the German company said, allows the SolarBadge to hang using hook-and-loop tape, from a belt, bag or clothing.
