Goodyear to develop tyres for US Army program
ERJ staff report (R&PN)
Akron, Ohio -- British engineering concern Ricardo P.L.C. has selected Goodyear as the exclusive supplier of fuel-efficient military tyres for the US Army Fuel Efficient Ground Vehicle Demonstrator program.
Ricardo selected Goodyear from among a group of several other military tyre makers to develop a new class of tyres that improve fuel efficiency without a significant impact on durability and tread life. Goodyear said it will develop tyres incorporating its Fuel Max Technology, developed for commercial truck tyres.
Launched in 2008 by the US Army's Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center, the FED program was established to enhance military vehicle technology, reduce fuel consumption on the battlefield and reduce US dependence on oil.
